Policy 4 People is an Australian based not for profit organisation committed to improving democracy through civic engagement and participation.
At Policy 4 People, we think government has a role in improving people’s lives, and a responsibility to do so in a way that is both effective and fair.
We also believe that the strength of societies lies in their inclusiveness and the participation of their people in civic life. We believe in empowering people to engage, through democratic processes, in issues of importance to them.
We are dismayed by the lack of depth in policy slogans and political commentary, and so we look at important policies and unpack what they really mean, and what their consequences are for real people. Our podcast Why Can’t They Just? analyses policy, not for its impact on politicians and their careers, but for its impact on real people and their lives and livelihoods.
Mission statement
Policy 4 People promotes democracy and civic engagement. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Policy translation and dialogue
- We facilitate a two-way flow of understanding between government and the public. We translate policy and its impacts for citizens, and we channel public and stakeholder perspectives back into policy processes.
- Community capability building
- We build civic skills, awareness, and confidence across communities, using diverse approaches. We tailor our approaches to suit communities of varying demographics, backgrounds, geographies, cultures, and socioeconomic circumstances, in order to empower their participation in democratic life.
- Grassroots organising
- We organise and support grassroots community participation in civic and policy issues, as a foundation of a healthy and functioning democracy.
